  • Can I extract my own tooth at home?

About 8 months ago cracked an upper molar and have been unable to chew on that side without pain. Have been getting boils and even pneumonia because of it so need to get it out. I've heard dentists charge upwards of $800 so I can't afford it. So would it be possible to pull it myself with pliers? I can take Tylenol for pain.

  • How can I help my teenage son?

Best answer: Perhaps you can look into how to possibly get legal conservatorship and/or guardianship over your son as he's 18, so it may be tougher to have control over his medical treatment (and/or finances).

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) has more general info re: the family members or caregivers role in someone with mental illness (and there may be a local support group or workshop for the friends or relatives):

https://www.nami.org/Find-Support/Family-Members-and-Caregivers and can click "being prepared for a crisis" or other categories on the left-hand side of the page.

Just as a point of reference, here is a government website for more *general* info re: conservatorship and/or guardianship, for instance:

  • I want to die?

Best answer: A psychiatrist has said that therapy always involves some self-help - "You have to do some homework." I'll tell you what you can do about this problem that bothers you, your lack of motivation.

Cognitive-behavioral therapy has a very simple and effective principle for motivation. When a task seems like its too big, think of it as a series of tasks that you can do one at a time and start with something really, really easy. If the task is cleaning the house, start by cleaning the kitchen counters. Or, work for 5 min and take a short break. Breaks are good but always watch the clock. Homework - proofread a paper or preview a chapter you're going to read by looking at headings, sub-headings, etc. Look for natural points in time to take breaks, like after reading a chapter.

The easiest thing of all is just to breathe slowly, imagine yourself getting started to work, and then getting up and getting started.

Another thing that's very good for motivation is to get more energy. As strange as it may seem, you may find that you get more energy by relaxing. Just breathe slowly for a few minutes. Exercise is a great energy booster. Don't be afraid of exercise. Light exercise, as little as 20 min brisk walking a day, can help, and you can add to that gradually so long as you don't get carried away, make yourself sick of exercise with too much of it and quit.

People often get depressed with a downward cognitive-behavioral spiral, negative thinking that leads to unhealthy behaviors and more negative thinking. Recovery involves an upward spiral of positive thinking and healthy behaviors. I can show you information about healthy behaviors shown to help with depression. If you see a doctor about your problem, the information you'd want to relate is how you're feeling at different times of day, any symptoms you might have, such as change of appetite or sleep, and things in your life affecting how you feel.

Treating depression with just a prescription is not a very good approach. Hopefully, the doctor would give you a good referral.

  • Eating disorder?

I've been suffering from depression for a couple years now and I feel like it's getting worse. For about a month now I've been starving myself. I drink water but when I eat I only have a small snack for the day and sometimes I'll only eat 1 or half a meal for the day. But there's a lot of days that I've gone 2 days without eating and when i try to eat more I get sick and throw it all up. I don't know whats wrong with me and I don't know who to go to about this. I don't know how to stop it all. I've been having anxiety attacks a lot. I had a seizure last month and I just want all of it to stop.

  • Brain tumor? I’m a 16 year old boy?

I have been having some issues lately. Sometimes when I am speaking to people I jumble up my words or slur my words. Also sometimes I can’t think of the right word for something. And sometimes I can’t think of the word for a simple object. I told my pediatrition about this and she said I was speaking to her fine, and that it was nothing to worry about, she said I was thinking faster than I was talking. I never get head aches or pain in my brain, but I’m just worried about it. I’m kind of a hypochondriac; I have thought I’ve had like 10 different cancers. Thanks and please don’t be mean

  • If i were to enter a coffee shop, not buy coffee, laugh at people buying coffee, call them idiots, and mocking their choice of coffee..?

.. wouldn't that make me a troll? If so wouldn't that mean that the people entering religion and spirituality forums on the Internet to laugh at people living by religion and spirituality, calling them idiots, and mocking their choice of belief, be considered the same? Why do atheist fundies, anti-theists and new atheists get so insecure on the Internet that they waste years of their life doing this futile thing? Faith in God is here to stay.

  • What does it mean if it takes 4 shots of alcohol for me to feel anything?

Best answer: There are a lot of factors that go into how fast you feel like you are drunk: what you are drinking, in what amount of time, body composition, did you eat, did you sleep a decent number of hours the night before, your environment (some people act/feel drunk even if they aren't actually just because they are at a party), etc.
